Normally held at the end of the summer, the ‘ballades’ or traditional dance, are held on or near the sites of ancient wells and natural springs, as a celebration of the harvest. As water is regarded as something to give worship to, the dances are held near their sources. These typical celebrations were revitalized only a matter of years ago, when the “colles de ball pagès” or trypical dance groups reinitiated the custom, demonstrating both dance and music with the general public as participants.

As a guide, see below for the key dates of the ‘Ballades’ of the Wells and Springs in Sant Joan de Labritja.

POU DE LABRITJA (Sant Joan): Sunday before the 5th August, the Feast of Our Lady of the Snow.

POU D'ALBARQUETA (Sant Miquel): August 5th .

DES POU BALADRE (Sant Vicent de Sa Cala): Saturday following August 8th, the Feast of San Ciriaco.

FONT DE BALAFIA (Sant Llorenç): second Sunday after August 10th, feast of Sant Llorenç.
