Just like the rest of the towns in the municipality, Sant Joan, the capital, is a small town, with approximately 169 inhabitants living in its core and another 726 scattered across the land.
One of the island’s most important tourist zones also lies within, that of PORTINATX which accommodates around a 5000 strong tourist population. Portinatx is characterised by its picturesque beaches between dense pine forests.

The patron saint of the parish is Saint John the Baptist, and his patron feast day is celebrated on 24th June. The feast day is always a great celebration where the inhabitants get together for a diverse number of cultural and religious activities including Holy Mass, processions, traditional dancing, travelling fairs, theatre performances and sporting competitions. However, perhaps the most typical characteristic of the celebrations are the fires of Sant Joan -‘los focs’. An ancient tradition, the fires are always accompanied by the noise of firecrackers and the sight of the fireworks.
