Architecturally speaking, this is only one of three examples in the Balearic Islands of a single entry archway and solid construction; the other two examples being the churches of Santa Gertrudis and El Pilar. The Bell Tower, which today manifests as the central point of the façade, was once located at the far end of the building until being moved to its current location in the 19th century. The church is set in Balàfia, a rural parish in the town with several interior defense towers, which was fairly inhabited and an important point on the island during the 16th century. For those who feel the need to explore the surrounding area of the Church of Sant LLorenc, go no further than the back of the building where one can follow a dirt road that leads to the village itself as well as the natural springs of Balàfia. Beside the church, the recreational area of Can Pere Mosson is ideal for a picnic with cooking facilities onsite for those who come prepared. Be advised, however, that these cooking areas are not available during the season of forest fires. For those with equestrian leanings, ‘Can Dog’ is the ideal place for horse-riding.
